Year of the Dragon, 2012

Picturing The Chinese New Year Parade

The Chinese New Year Parade was spectacular ~ making its way around Union Square in a flourish of dazzling color, music and dancing!

In traditional, Chinese astrology, the dragon is the only animal that is mythological, and in keeping with the very dynamic personality of the Dragon - its year is said to be very dynamic as well!

The Lion Dancers dance to scare away evil spirits. The fur-trimmed lions come in different colors signifying such things as prosperity, happiness, good character and abundance.

I love the Lion Dancers...

... and the children with their colorful, Chinese fans!

  2. Are these your pictures? I see the parade in San Fran is just as great as the one in New York City :) I wish I had brought my camera.

  3. These are not my pictures. My BlackBerry could not do the parade justice from where I was standing. However, lots of my own photos are here as well as on tumblr and twitter! The parade was fabulous! Would love to see the one in NYC! :)
